What I Do
My job is to help you, a business, talk to your customers in language they can understand. That means creating the right mix of imagery and words that will inspire your audience to take action—whether it’s to hire your firm, buy your product, or attend your event. A layout with pretty pictures is nice, but a smart concept with top-notch execution is far better. Many clients work with me individually; other times I team up with marketers, copywriters, or web developers on jobs that have a scope broader than my specialty, print design. I’m located in the Cincinnati area, but my clients are companies located all around the country.
After earning a Bachelor of Science in Design Communication from the University of Minnesota, I gained experience at a corporate in-house creative department. Several years at a design agency followed before launching my own freelance design studio. I’ve developed identity systems, logos, capabilities brochures, direct mail pieces, print ads, websites, and other marketing materials for a range of organizations, from large corporations and universities, to marketing agencies, small businesses, and non-profits.
I also enjoy surface design. Ribbon and textile manufacturers have licensed many designs, and my fabric lines have appeared on bags, apparel, and furniture at Nordstrom, Target, HomeGoods, and the Land of Nod. Take a peek at some of the work here.
For seven years I wrote the blog How About Orange, now archived. A Bloggie web awards finalist for many consecutive years, the site features craft tutorials, DIY projects, free downloads, and decorating ideas. How About Orange received mention at The Huffington Post, Design*Sponge, and Apartment Therapy, was featured on ABC TV, and received press in magazines and newspapers around the world.
